Le Pilly, on the 112th Anniversary

Lecture by Michael Desmond

CLONMEL HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY

Join us on Monday, 19th October 2026 for a lecture on "Le Pilly, on the 112th anniversary.” by Michael Desmond.

For the 112th anniversary in October 2026, Le Pilly therefore provides a particularly poignant reminder of the Irish contribution to the First World War—and of the enormous human cost of the opening months of the conflict. Among those killed were men from Waterford, Wexford, Tipperary and Kilkenny, reflecting the strongly Irish character of the regiment.

Michael Desmond is member of Clonmel Historical and Archaeological society.

This talk will focus on the First World War battle that broke the Royal Irish Regiment.
