Father/daughter duo from Louisi ana play music of their Appalachian and Cajun heritage

Dirk and Amelia Powell are a father/daughter duo from Southwest Louisiana, and they are coming back to Clonmel 3 years after their last Sold Out sho w in town

Dirk Powell is well-known to Irish audiences from his perf ormances with the Transatlantic Sessions and his work with artists such as Joan Baez, Rhiannon Giddens, Eric Clapton, and many more. He is regarded as a champion of rural Americana, with a focus on the music of his Appalac hian roots and his Cajun home, but has longstanding ties with the Celtic m usic world.

Powell has won four Grammy Awards and has been a guest o n American television shows including Late Night with David Letterman, the Today Show, and American Masters. For ten years, he was Joan Baez’s “band .” He was a longtime member of the Cajun band Balfa Toujours. Currently, h e is performing as a solo artist, as a featured artist with Transatlantic Sessions, and on tour with Mary Chapin Carpenter.
