The\nprogramme highlights the growing appetite for hands-on experiences that connect\npeople with local heritage and help safeguard tr aditional skills and techniques\nat risk of being lost.\n\nThe week begins on Saturday 15th of August with a guided walk through Marlfield\nVillage\ , where participants will uncover the area’s fascinating monastic\,\narchi tectural\, and natural heritage\, before finishing with a demonstration of \nink-making from oak gall\, a tradition that came back to western Europe with the\nCrusaders and was widely used in illustration for the vellum mas terpieces that\nthe monks produced.\n\nOn Monday\, 17th of August\, Local Bus Tour\, “Heritage on a Plate: A Local\nTipperary Food Journey\,” will e xplore the county’s rich food traditions\,\nintroducing participants to lo cal producers such as Tipperary Boutique\nDistillery\, Rivesci and Cashel Blue Cheese Farmhouse and the landscapes that\nhave sustained generations of farming and food production.\n\nThe creative achievements of participan ts from Clonmel Training Centre will be\ncelebrated on Tuesday\, 18th Augu st\, when Tipperary Museum of Hidden\nHistory launches an exhibition of st one carving and slate work created during a\nseries of workshops with mast er stonemason\, Philip Quinn. This August, Tipperary Museum of Hidden History invites the public to discover the skills, stories, and traditions that have shaped County Tipperary for generations through Hands of Heritage, a week-long programme of free events for National Heritage Week 2026.

Running from 15th to 2 2nd of August, Hands of Heritage at Tipperary M useum of Hidden History celebrates the county’s rich cultural heritage thr ough guided walks, traditional crafts, local food, exhibitions, and demons trations, bringing together craftspeople, historians, farmers, and communi ty participants to explore the living traditions that continue to connect people with place. The programme highlights the growing appetite for hands -on experiences that connect people with local heritage and help safeguard traditional skills and techniques at risk of being lost.

The week b egins on Saturday 15th of August with a guided walk through Marlfield Vill age, where participants will uncover the area’s fascinating monastic, arch itectural, and natural heritage, before finishing with a demonstration of ink-making from oak gall, a tradition that came back to western Europe wit h the Crusaders and was widely used in illustration for the vellum masterp ieces that the monks produced.

On Monday, 17th of August, Local Bus Tour, “Heritage on a Plate: A Local Tipperary Food Journey,” will explore the county’s rich food traditions, introducing participants to local produ cers such as Tipperary Boutique Distillery, Rivesci and Cashel Blue Cheese Farmhouse and the landscapes that have sustained generations of farming a nd food production.

The creative achievements of participants from C lonmel Training Centre will be celebrated on Tuesday, 18th August, when&nb sp;Tipperary Museum of Hidden History launches an ex hibition of stone carving and slate work created during a series of worksh ops with master stonemason, Philip Quinn. The exhibition showcases not onl y traditional stone carving skills but also the creativity, confidence, an d craftsmanship developed through the Hands of Heritage programme.

The centrepiece of the week is Ó Chaora go Geans aí (From Sheep to Sweater), a unique three-day celebration of Ireland’s wo ol heritage running from Wednesday, 19th to Friday, 21th of August at  ;Tipperary Museum of Hidden History.

The week concludes on Saturday, 22nd of August with a day of traditional craft demonstrations o utside Tipperary Museum of Hidden History.
